The music ministry of First Christian Church enriches our worship by providing passionate music of praise and devotion.  Anyone can participate and all musical skill-levels are welcome.  Contact Mark Miller, Director of Music Ministries, to get involved with Music Ministries.

Ensembles:

Sanctuary Choir

For well over 120 years, the Sanctuary Choir has maintained a distinguished history of providing music leadership in worship. This choir performs an extensive range of musical styles spanning multiple centuries and welcomes participants of high school age and older. Rehearsals are conducted every Sunday at 9:15 a.m. throughout the year.

Handbell Choir

The Handbell Choir has been an integral and vibrant component of worship at First Christian Church for over 50 years, using our 61 English handbells, handchimes, and Dutch handbells. The ensemble is open to adults able to read music. Rehearsals are held on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. from September through May.

Handbell Quartet

This small ensemble performs a wide range of challenging music for English handbells, as well as the centuries-old practice of change ringing on the church’s set of Dutch handbells.

Recorder Consort

The Recorder Consort performs a variety of music on several sizes of recorders – an instrument with a rich history spanning centuries. The players also perform solo literature from time to time adding color to hymns and choral music.

Soloists and Instrumentalists

Soloists and instrumentalists present vocal and instrumental solos throughout the seasons to enrich our worship services.

Torch Praise Team

The Torch Worship Team provides and leads worship music with an eclectic contemporary style, utilizing piano, vocals, guitar, and drums.

EVERYONE is welcome to participate. Besides our numerous ensembles, individual vocalists and instrumentalists help lead worship as well.

Special Annual Events:

  • Praisefest is an outdoor event in the church parking lot featuring music by our Torch Praise Team. Ice cream and cookies are also served. This is usually held on a Sunday evening in early September.
  • Christmas Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, third Sunday of Advent, with music by the Sanctuary and Handbell Choirs and Torch Praise Team.
  • Festive celebration music with organ, choirs, bells and brass is always an integral part of Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter worship at First Christian Church.

Musical Offerings

Special programs and concerts may be held throughout the year featuring guest musical ensembles and soloists. The excellent acoustics of our Sanctuary and Chapel offer a beautiful setting for ensembles such as Musica Antiqua Lincoln, Dulces Voces, Lincoln Organ Showcase, and various professional and college choirs and ensembles on tour.
